FUNdamentals of Quilting Class
For a number of years, I have been teaching a beginner/intermediate quilting course called FUNdamentals of Quilting at the Serge & Sew store located in the Norad Plaza in Nanaimo. Classes are typically available each Spring, Fall and Winter (we take the Summer off).
This course is conducted as a series of 4 full-day classes (10:30am–4:00pm), during which students learn the basic building blocks of creating a quilt, and practise the skills needed to create their own projects. Most importantly, they learn how to enjoy the creative process.
During the course, students can combine the class samples into a lap quilt, or leave the samples “as is” to use for future reference.
Quilting for Charities
There are a number of organizations that welcome quilts to support the people they serve. Over the years, I have supported, and developed connections with, many of them, including Quilts of Valour Canada, Haven Society, a group supporting youths exiting foster care, Nanaimo NICU, and Nanaimo Hospice. Our local quilt group also donated two dozen quilts to families impacted by the Lytton forest fires.
If you're interested in creating quilts for charities, let's talk! I can direct you to the groups currently in need.
